Recently saw this short documentary produced by aventure travel guru Richard Bangs, entitled “In Quest for Pura Vida.” In it Bangs visits some of Costa Rica’s famous national parks in his search for the secret of Costa Rica’s success, which he believes may be encompassed in it’s national slogan, “Pura Vida.”

Arenas del Mar is the only resort that has both a 5-star luxury rating and a 5-leaf sustainability rating. That, in my opinion, makes it one of the coolest places in Costa Rica! It is located on the Central Pacific Coast within walking distance of the Manuel Antonio National Park. It is the only true beachfront resort in this area. But if you want to stay there better call us early because this place stays booked year around.

Great green macaws nesting at La Selva Biological Station Sarapiqui in the province of Heredia, Costa Rica. Great Green Macaws are the largest parrots in their natural range, averaging 85–90 cm (33–36 in) long and 1.3 kg (2.9 lb) in weight. It is endangered, and has been one of the key elements in the proposal for the formation of a new wildlife refuge in Costa Rica, Refugio Maquenque in the Nortern Zone. The protection of the endangered wild almond tree is essential to the survival of this beautiful species of bird.

La Selva Station is one of the most important sites in the world for research on tropical rain forests with over 240 scientific papers are published yearly from research conducted at the site.

Costa Rica first and only micro-brewing company located in Cartago won a silver medal at the Copa Cervezas de América (American Beer Cup) in Chile this month. I tasted the golden ale last night at Mack’s bar and found it surprisingly delicious! Bout time Imperial had some competition (even though I do love my Imperial!!!). Pura Vida and Congratulations Craft Crew!

Conversa is one of Costa Rica’s oldest Spanish learning companies. My son recently completed a three month program with Converse at their beautiful Santa Ana campus. If you want to learn Spanish in Costa Rica, Conversa is definitely the way to go. While they historically have catered to the young college or high school student, they also have great programs for those of us getting up in the years who still would like to exercise our brain cells a bit learning a new language. There is no better place on earth than Costa Rica to do so and Conversa has a program that is just right for you. The link below will take you to their new brochure explaining their programs for retirees. A Conversa program is also a great way to “get your feet wet” if contemplating a more permanent move to Costa Rica. If you want to know more, please call Package Costa Rica at 1-866-424-6439.
