Guanacaste is the part of Costa Rica that has received the most international attention over the last decade. It is home to the famed "gold coast" that boasts miles and miles of rugged coastline with beautiful white sand beaches and lots of sunshine. Guanacaste is the hottest and driest part of Costa Rica. It is also the flattest. These factors, coupled with the white sand beaches, have led to widespread development by such high profile outfits like Four Seasons, J.P. Marriott and others. Most of the attention has been focused on Northern Guanacaste and areas such as Tamarindo, Flamingo, Peninsula Papagayo and Coco. However, one should not overlook Southern Guanacaste and the beautiful beaches of Samara and Punta Islita, among others. In Guanacaste you will find 5-star resorts, pristine beaches, and lots of sunshine and good times. If you are looking at Guanacaste as your preferred destination, you may consider flying into Liberia as opposed to San Jose. Liberia is home to Costa Rica's other international airport and a flight into it will place you only a short drive away from the beautiful Gold Coast.
