An hour ferry ride from Puntarenas across the gulf that separates the peninsula from the mainland, this area of Costa Rica offers seclusion and adventure. The Golfo Nicoya zone features everything from sprawling all-inclusive resorts like Tambor Beach to hip little beach-towns like Montezuma and Malpais. You can take a tour to the famous Isla Tortuga, an island in the gulf that features a sugary white sand beach and turquoise colored clear waters with great snorkeling, or go hiking in the jungle to get a glimpse of the monkeys, sloths or incredible variety of birds that call the peninsula home. Great surf, great food and great times await visitors to the peninsula.
