The Southern Pacific Coast is Costa Rica's "bug sur" with mountains that end right at the coastline. The views driving down the Costanera Highway that stretches from the Central Pacific town of Quepos all the way to Sierpe is magnificent. This area is home to virgin rain forests teaming with life and a rugged coastline dotted with beautiful white sand beaches. Highlights of the Southern Pacific include the Marino Ballena National Park where during certain times of the year one can view migrating humpback whales frolicking in the blue waters. A little further south is the Osa Peninsula, the Golfo Dulce and Corcovado National Park, which National Geographic called the most biologically diverse location on earth. Costa Rica's often overlooked Southern Pacific offers the adventurous tourist an opportunity to view the "wild-side" (naturally speaking) of Costa Rica.
