Villas Rio Mar

Our go-to of the Costa Rica Southern Pacific hotels in the Dominical area. Villas Rio Mar is located about a kilometer outside of town along the road the runs parallel with the beautiful Rio Baru. The hotel features individual bungalows scattered around the very large grounds that are immaculately landscaped with exotic tropical plants. The hotel has a large swimming pool and a really good restaurant. The rooms either have large ceiling fans, or air-condition. The hotel also has a tennis court. I really like that each bungalow has a veranda with a small fridge where one can keep the “refreshments.” It is nice to sit out there and have a sip or two of your beverage of choice while enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of a tropical wonderland.

Cuna del Angel

Although Cuna del Angel, price-wise, is in the category of a mid-range hotel, it features many trappings of an upscale boutique. It is located near Domincalito, about 5 minutes from the thriving beach town of Dominical. Like most Costa Rica Southern Pacific hotels in the area, Cuna sits up high with views of the ocean. The area just does not lend itself topographically to developing beachfront hotels, as the Fila Costeña coastal mountain range hugs the coast from Dominical all the way down to the Osa Peninsula. Cuna offers a great restaurant and bar, infinity-edge pool and immaculately appointed rooms, some with spectacular ocean views. It is a great choice for customers wanting a bit upscale, but still affordable.

Jinetes de Osa

Our go-to mid-range choice for designs that include a visit to Corcovado National Park. This charming little hotel is a divers paradise. It is located right in the center of the tiny pueblo of Drake Bay on the outer northern edge of the famed Osa Peninsula. Osa is home to Corcovado National Park, a place National Geographic once labeled, “the most bio-diverse location earth.” And Jinetes is a great base camp to launch ventures into the heart of this mysterious tropical paradise, where all four species of Costa Rica’s monkeys swing through the trees, Dantas (or Tapirs), Costa Rica’s largest mammal, bathe in shallow pools, and you might even perhaps get a glimpse of an elusive Jaguar, Costa Rica’s largest jungle cat. Drake is a gateway to such areas of the park as San Pedrillo and Sirena stations. It is also a short boat ride to Isla del Caño, where you will find some of Costa Rica’s best reef diving. Osa is for the most adventurous of Costa Rica travelers and Jinetes is a great place to hang your hat after a long hard day of trekking through jungles or diving crystal coral reefs.

Corcovado Tent Camp

There is something about staying overnight in a tent that brings you closer to nature. Granted, there are some people who just don’t like the concept. But at the Corcovado Tent Camp, the “tents” are pretty cool. The are off the ground, very large, you are well sealed in for protection from the critters, and you still get that tent camp experience. The stays include all meals and I can attest that the food is fantastic. Bathrooms are shared, but that lends to the overall camp experience. And the setting is as authentic tropical jungle as you will find anywhere. Watch out for those bathroom runs late at night because there is no telling what you might bump into. Corcovado Tent Camp is a great experience for those who really want to get closer with nature.

Lapa Rios

The Lapa Rios story ranks as one of the groundbreaking developments in the sustainable eco-tourism niche. John and Karen Lewis left the big city life years ago to come to Costa Rica and get involved in something. That something ended up being one of the world’s most renowned eco-lodges, one that actually received accolades from Condoleezza Rice when the lodge received the Corporate Excellence Award in 2005. Lapa Rios is located at the far southern end of the Osa Peninsula and is surrounded by the most amazing biodiversity imaginable. The hotel itself is luxurious, but in a very eco-friendly way. They also give their guest the opportunity to get involved with the community, such as helping out at the local school that John and Karen founded when they first landed in Costa Rica years ago. Lapa Rios is a great way to experience how Costa Rica has a way of bringing out the best in some of us!

Aguila de Osa

Aguila de Osa presents an upscale choice among Costa Rica Southern Pacific hotels in the jungle and water paradise of Drake Bay. The hotel has its own dock as the best and most feasible way to arrive to this remote destination is boat (or plane as there is also an airstrip close by). The hotel was developed by Jim Damalas, who is an eco-resort pioneer in Costa Rica. Like his other hotels, Aguila was constructed with great attention to detail and taste. The hotel fare offers three meals a day as other eating options in this area are rare to come by. The rooms are gorgeous and so is the view out over the magnificent Drake Bay.

Casa Corcovado

Casa Corcovado is unique in both its upscale eco-lodge nature and the fact that they offer all-inclusive packages that include domestic flights to Drake Bay, airport pickup, deluxe accommodations, all meals and drinks and tours of Corcovado National Park and Isla del Caño. Many of our customers have taken advantage of the luxury and convenience of these all-inclusive packages and have returned raving fans. Casa Corcovado is located on the Drake Bay side of the Osa Peninsula.
