I don’t like to pick on clients, but this one deserves it.
I received an inquiry about our perennially popular and often copied Pure Adrenaline design.
It’s popular for a reason…it kicks ass and has kicked a lot of ass over the years…
In short, folks love it…and some keep coming back for more.
But after I responded to the inquiry with Pure Adrenaline information, I get a follow up to the effect of…
“We just booked a hotel and flight into San Jose. What can you recommend we do as day tours from San Jose?”
Now, I haven’t the foggiest idea what would motivate anyone to book a hotel plus flight that anchors them to San Jose for their entire Costa Rica vacation over the wide ranging experience of Costa Rica that is the Pure Adrenaline.
Oh, I guess I can come up with one…trying to save a buck.
But in doing that they have greatly diminished any chance of getting an outstanding Costa Rica experience.
Why?
Well, even though there are some interesting things to see within a “day tour” in and around San Jose…what about…
The Arenal Volcano…
Monteverde…
Manuel Antonio…
the big 3 of Costa Rica’s touristic jewels.
Nope, sorry, forget about it.
You can’t feasibly do a “day tour” to any of those places…you are going to be six or more hours just getting there and back. There won’t be any time to actually enjoy the place. To do that you need to go there and stay there…two or more nights is recommended.
You see, that’s why you read me poo-pooing on the Flight + Hotel deals so much. They equate to a sucky experience of Costa Rica. One that tries to, as I recently wrote, commoditize the place.
And here at Costa Rica we’re into making sure your experience is outstanding…not “sucky.”
So don’t do as this client did. At least not before talking to me.

Oh, by the way, the same advice goes for any other Hotel + Flight “deal” to any specific destination…Costa Rica is about accessibility…the whole country is open for visitation and worth seeing…
