Hotel Colonial

A beautiful colonially decorated hotel adjacent to Granada’s central park and my personal favorite place to stay while in Granada. Granada is the colonial city by Lake Nicaragua. It is full of history, impressive architecture, arts and crafts, great food, the Mombacho volcano and then there is the lake (one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world). Granada is a must visit for any trip that includes Nicaragua and is featured on our Costa Rica-Nicaragua combo design. Hotel Colonial, with its warm and friendly staff, classically appointed rooms, and central location make it a great choice among our Nicaragua hotels to get an authentic colonial experience while visiting this important town in the land of lakes and volcanoes.

Totoco Eco-lodge

I have had the privilege of staying at Totoco once a couple years ago. It is nestled on the Volcan Maderas side of the figure-eight shaped island of Ometepe, the largest island in Lake Nicaragua. The island is formed by two volcanoes, the active Concepción and the inactive and jungle covered Maderas, with a narrow land bridge that joins them together to form this amazing island. Totoco, along the lines of Rancho Margot at the Arenal Volcano, is one of the only Nicaragua hotels that is completely self-sustaining. All power, water, sewage treatment as well as much of the food production is done right there on the property. Yet with all this green thinking, the concept of luxury has not escaped the mix. Totoco is a great way to experience Ometepe and feel good that you have contributed in a sustainble way while doing so.

Morgan’s Rock Eco-Lodge

Another one of our Nicaragua hotels that is super sustainable, yet a super luxury offering, this time near the Nicaraguan southern Pacific coastal town of San Juan del Sur. At Morgan’s Rock you will be treated to luxurious accommodations, great food, a secluded white sand beach and a wide variety of flora and fauna. But you will also have a chance at learning how the developers of this amazing eco-resort are giving back to the local community and protecting the environment.
