El Sano Banano
El Sano Banano is Ylang Ylang’s (see below) cheap sister hotel (they share the same parents). It is located right in the heart of the rocking little pueblo know as Montezuma. The rooms are comfortable and the price is right. It is also close to all the action going on in town. And the restaurant is fantastic. They also feature nightly movies. A really cool place for the budget minded. You also get to use all the facilities of Ylang Ylang as a guest of Sano and that makes it even a better deal.
Tambor Resort
Barcelo is the Spanish king of all-inclusive resort and they have been doing it in Costa Rica for a lot longer than even we have been around. The Tambor Resort sits beachfront to the beautiful passive waves of Tambor Beach, on the Nicoya Peninsula. The all-inclusive system means you don’t have to worry about food, or drink, because three meals a day are included, plus all the locally produced alcohol you care to drink. The resort also features a great pool, casino and nightly shows. The Tambor Resort is a great option among Nicoya Peninsula hotels for the all-inclusive inclined.
Villas Kalimba
This is our favorite of the Nicoya Peninsula hotels that are located in Samara, one of the peninsula’s truly remarkable beaches. Villas Kalimba offers fully equipped villas that feature funky tropical designs with all the comforts of home. The place is located just across the street from Samara beach and central to all the cool stuff you can find in the hip little beach community. There is also a pool with Jacuzzi to dip into when you get too shriveled by the salt water. This is a great place just to sit back and relax.
Florblanca
Florblanca is a supercharged and super sustainable boutique hotel located on the beautiful stretch of coastline called Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula. This place has long been a haven for yoga enthusiasts and surfers. Florblanca caters to both, albeit those looking for a very upscale experience. One of the most exclusive retreats among the Nicoya Peninsula hotels catering to honeymooners, or just lustful lovers (what’s the difference anyway?). If you’re looking to really get away from it all, this is a great choice.
Ylang Ylang
This has been one of our favorite boutiques for a long time and many of our customers have experienced this funky little hotel located right on a crystal white sand beach within a short jungle walk from Montezuma. You actually have to walk down the beach to get there, or take a hotel offered 4×4 shuttle. It’s that cool, yea. The rooms are bungalow style. The rates come with breakfast and dinner and the food is fantastic. There is also a great pool and did I already mention the beach? Ylang Ylang is funky cool just like the place where it resides, Montezuma (or, fuma, as the locals say).
Punta Islita
Punta Islita lies in a remote corner of the Peninsula, accessible by car, but much more-so by plane. But that is no problem as there is an airstrip very close to the resort. The remoteness of this romantic place provides a hint to just how exclusive and ultra-boutique it is. I know I have used this phrase before, but it is a truly one-of-a-kind experience. The developer made sure that Punta Islita blends well not just into its amazing natural surroundings, but also into the community of Islita as well. To make sure of that, the hotel hires local staff and supports an art gallery in which local artists feature their crafts. Islita is not just for movie stars, although you might think so once you arrive at a place that gives full and descriptive meaning to the word “paradise.”
