Living in a country where the “mullet” is still “in” I am a little peeved that former governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois has been kicked out of office and personally ruined on account of what some consider bad hair. What happened to the concept of “due process” in the U.S.? Shouldn’t the guy have been afforded the chance to bring in witnesses, or at least his hair stylist, to defend him? No and it’s just another case of media run rampant. The U.S. media has far too much control over what happens in U.S. society and this is another shining example of that. But what about the phone calls you ask? Well let’s tap the phones of all U.S. Senators and Congressman and see what we can hear. If you don’t think the same kind of tough talk and tit for tat goes on every hour of every day, then you are living in la la land. Nope, what happened is that Blago was a potential embarrassment to our new president and to his party so Blago got railroaded. Railroaded in the media and railroaded in the Illinois legislature. What about the criminal case? In the U.S. you are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, but the media is always free to presume guilt (and usually does, since it’s more sensational) and when you are tried and found guilty in the media, you might as well kiss your ass goodbye. In Blago’s case the media has not only presumed him guilty, but also has presumed him insane, as that seems to be the conclusion they have come to as of late. He probably is a little insane, so what. So am I. And those ladies on The View, they are all completely nuts (except for that cute blonde one, Hasselbeck). And why is Blago insane? Because the guy had the nerve to try to defend himself. So here we have another example of the viciousness of the media. If anybody gets in the way of one of their causes, and Barack Obama is the biggest cause to have come down the pike in many years, then woe be to them. Just like Blago, a man twice elected by the people of Illinois, you will be destroyed, politically, professionally and personally. So here I am again, rambling on politically in a blog that is supposed to be about Costa Rica. Therefore, I will end this post by inviting Blago to come to Costa Rica. He will be welcome here, just like all the rest of us crazy expats, bad hair and all. I guess the moral of this story is that I love Costa Rica because here we don’t destroy our corrupt politicians based on their bad hairdos. We just shoot them.
